Bird Appliqué

By JC Designs
The bird measures approx. 2” inches across from head to tail but can vary based on yarn and hook size.

*Crochet hook size 3.5mm & 2.5mm
*Worsted weight yarn: small amounts of any two colors you like and orange for the beak
*Tapestry Needle

Their's no need to slip stitch and/or chain when going to the next round unless stated to do so.
Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round or row indicate the total number of stitches for that round or row.

BIRD with 3.5mm hook
Rnd 1: 10sc in a magic ring (10) Pull as tightly as possible so no hole is showing.
Rnd 2: 2sc in the next sc, sc in next sc, hdc then dc in next sc, 2dc in next 2sc, 2sc in next sc, sc then dc in next sc, 2tr in next sc, 2dtr in the next 2sc
Rnd 3: 2dtr in first st, 1 triple tr and leave the rest unfinished.
F/O and weave in ends

BEAK with 3.5mm hook
Join orange yarn in the 7th stitch of the second row. sc in the same stitch.
F/O and weave in ends.

HEART WING with 2.5mm hook
  Rnd 1: ch2, 2dc, 3sc, 1dc, 3sc, 2dc into the magic ring
Pull tightly to close. F/O and weave in ends.

I recommend pinning the heart wing in place before sewing it to make sure you have it in the position you like best before sewing.
  Embroidery the eye.

Ex: Some stuff I added this appliqué to.

Moster Lene kindly translated the pattern in Danish. If you would like the pattern in Danish it can be found here.

These birds are precious! I'm in the process of making a whole flock to string together for a garland in my nursery. Thanks for helping me nest as I prepare for my daughter's arrival. When I've got my garland assembled, I'll post a link with pictures. I really love that you included links to the less common crochet terms. Your pattern was easy to follow and clear. Thank you!!!

For some reason I can only see half of the page so I can only see half of the pattern. Is there anyway you could e-mail me this pattern?

I really love this pattern, but as a beginner the heart wing instructions are vague. Like, do you make a magic ring first? How many are in the ring? etc. I am just doing trial and error until I figure it out. Thank you!

I love the little birdie, but need it a little larger. Do you have instructions on how to make a larger birdie applique?

I just love this little bird! I would love to add it to my upcoming project (a crochet quiet book), as part of my free pattern, by linking to this page/pattern. Thank you!
